Introduction

     Computer crime is known by lots of different names, including cybercrime, e-crime, or electronic crime. All of these are crimes where computers or networks are used or attacked. These electronic crimes are being used to steal identities and huge sums of money. Many traditional crimes such as theft, blackmail, forgery, embezzlement and fraud today are all conducted on the internet.

     This Article discusses federal, state, and international developments in computer-related criminal law. Section I defines computer crimes. Section II describes the federal statutes used for prosecuting computer crime, analyzes enforcement strategies, and discusses constitutional and statutory issues involving computer crime. Section III examines state approaches to battling computer crime and the resulting federalism issues. Lastly, Section IV addresses international approaches to regulating the Internet as well as international cooperation in computer crime enforcement.

Businesses can E Commerce Insurance which will reimburse the policy holder for the cost of sending a team of computer consultant to the business to stop the hack attack. Insurance underwriter Brad Gow says hackers usually take advantage of known weaknesses in the software to steal money and goods. The Insurance Information Institute says Ecommerce insurance reimburses for lost income, and lost "click-throughs". David Stoddard of U.S Net says it's important to protect your computers with anti-viral software and firewalls.
